We bought a water softener in 2004 from General Ionics. We were told how this was a fabulous product, used by NASA even.

The stainless steel tank came with a lifetime warranty. We paid a lot of money for this system. Wow were we ***! We have used their salt, which is way more expensive than other salts, we were paying for quality, right?

I loved having a water softener and bragged about how good the system was. In five years the stainless steel tank needed to be replaced, it leaked. No problem the company said. I was charged a service charge over $100.

I wasn't happy about paying that, I am old fashioned and believe warranty work shouldn't cost the customer anything. This past spring the system quit working. The service guys came out and advised me I needed $200 worth of parts. I purchase parts for different venues and this seem excessive for the parts.

They It was a plumbing fitting and a valve. I paid it though. Now several months later my tank is leaking again. I called to have it replaced, it has a lifetime warranty.

$700 service charge! I was told service fees changed dramatically when General Ionics became Puronics. I have had one installed before, it doesn't take more than an hour to do. So if I were to pay this fee for this tank than in 5 more years when I have to buy another tank I wonder how much their "service fee" would be inflated.

I am embarrassed by my stupidity for buying this thing. For the amount of money it cost, service fees should not even measure in, especially for warranty work. Shame on you! I asked to have a supervisor call me, they never did.

So before Puronics rep tells me to call customer service I would say for what? Put on this forum how much it cost to have an under warranty steel tank installed.

And for anyone wondering I live in the Cincinnati tri-state area. The local purionics distributor is located in Cincinnati.

Monetary Loss: $9000.

Location: Cincinnati, Ohio
